2 min
The story of Kazu Miura is such a remarkable example of perseverance and sporting dedication that it served as inspiration for cartoonist Yoichi Takahashi. That is, the creator of the Captain Tsubasa series. The striker began his professional journey in Brazil, as at that time, Japan only had an amateur league.

Globetrotter

At just 15 years old, he had to leave his hometown of Shizuoka, signing for Santos, then Palmeiras, and so on. Meanwhile, he took on the leadership of the Japanese national team during the nineties, achieving their first qualification for a World Cup. Although, incomprehensibly, the manager left him out of the squad for France 1998.

Despite this, he caught the attention of European clubs such as Dinamo Zagreb, Genoa and Portuguese side Oliveirense. In fact, Kazu Miura can boast of having played across four of the six continents. America, Asia, Europe and also Oceania, thanks to his time at Sydney FC, among others.

Unstoppable

Accumulating a staggering 16 different clubs throughout his extensive 41-year professional career. Not counting his first steps in state school championships. Currently, approaching 59 years of age, the Japanese legend seems reluctant to give up his passion.
